About Atyrau International Airport
Atyrau International Airport is the main airport serving Atyrau and the wider Atyrau Region in western Kazakhstan, near the Ural River and the northern Caspian Sea. Named in honor of the Kazakh aviator Khiuaz Dospanova, it is an important gateway for the region's oil and gas industry and for travelers moving between Kazakhstan, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The airport's current passenger terminal opened in 2006 and serves both domestic and international flights from a single building. A 3,000-meter runway and 24-hour operations support regular and charter services, while the airport's location at about 22 meters below sea level makes it one of the lowest-lying commercial airports in the world.
Located around 8 km northwest of central Atyrau, the airport is connected to the city by buses, taxis, private transfers, and road links, making it straightforward to reach hotels, business districts, and surrounding areas.
