Asahikawa Airport is the main airport serving Asahikawa and the surrounding Kamikawa region of central Hokkaido. Opened in 1966 and operated by Hokkaido Airports, it provides domestic connections to major Japanese cities and a limited number of international services, functioning as a practical gateway to the Daisetsuzan area.
The airport's current passenger terminal opened in 2000 and is organized into domestic and international sections. Domestic flights link Asahikawa with Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, while international services have connected the airport with destinations such as Seoul.
