About Amami Airport
Amami Airport is the main airport serving Amami Oshima, the largest island in the Amami archipelago in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. The original airport opened in 1964, and the current facility opened in July 1988 at a coastal site in Kasari-cho after the runway was extended for jet aircraft operations.
Located about 30 km northeast of central Naze in Amami City, the airport connects the island with domestic destinations including Kagoshima, Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka and other nearby Amami islands. It serves both leisure and business travelers visiting the region.
The single passenger terminal is arranged over three floors, with arrivals and check-in on the first floor, security and the departure lounge on the second floor, and an observation deck on the third floor. Facilities include shops, a restaurant, a paid lounge, free Wi-Fi and accessibility services.
The airport is reached from Naze by the Shima Bus airport line, taxi, rental car, private transfer or road, with the journey taking around 50 minutes by car. It functions as a practical gateway for visitors arriving on Amami Oshima.
