About Akita Airport
Akita Airport is the main airport serving Akita City and Akita Prefecture in northern Tohoku. The current airport opened in 1981 and primarily handles domestic routes, with selected international services operating from a separate international terminal building.
Located southeast of central Akita, the airport is about 19 km by road from JR Akita Station. Its two adjacent terminal buildings serve domestic flights from JAL and ANA and international flights, with check-in, arrivals, security and baggage areas arranged across the domestic and international facilities.
The airport is connected to Akita by limousine bus, with services reaching Akita Station in about 40 minutes and Akita City Hall in about 50 minutes. Taxis, shared-ride services and car rental are also available, while JR Wada Station provides the nearest rail access for onward travel.
