About Addis Ababa Bole International Airport

Addis Ababa Bole International Airport is Ethiopia's main international airport and the primary hub for Ethiopian Airlines, connecting the capital with domestic destinations and cities across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Opened in the early 1960s, it has grown into one of the most important aviation gateways in East Africa.

The airport operates two main passenger terminals. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights, while Terminal 2 serves international traffic and was inaugurated in 2003 before a further expansion was completed in 2019. The complex also includes airline offices, immigration and customs facilities, and a wide range of passenger services.

Located in the Bole area, about 6–8 km southeast of central Addis Ababa, the airport is one of the more centrally positioned major airports in Africa. Travelers can continue to the city by taxi, private transfer, hotel shuttle, public transport or rental car, with travel times depending on traffic.

Passengers can make use of duty-free shopping, restaurants, cafés, lounges, a transit hotel, free Wi-Fi, charging points, pharmacies and other amenities, making the airport a practical arrival and departure point for visitors to Ethiopia.
