About Noonu

Noonu Atoll is an administrative atoll in the northern Maldives, formed by the southern section of Miladhunmadulu Atoll. Its capital is Manadhoo, and the atoll combines quiet inhabited islands with some of the country's most exclusive private-island resorts.

The atoll is known for its clear lagoons, healthy house reefs and white sandbanks, making it popular for snorkelling, diving, dolphin cruises and barefoot-luxury stays. Resorts such as Soneva Jani, Cheval Blanc Randheli, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, Robinson Noonu and Noku Maldives are spread across its islands.

Beyond the resorts, inhabited islands including Manadhoo, Velidhoo, Holhudhoo and Kendhikulhudhoo show everyday Maldivian life, with mosques, harbours, local cafés and traditional boatbuilding. Visitors can combine a resort stay with local island experiences and cultural excursions.

Maafaru International Airport, opened in 2019, gives the atoll direct international and private-jet connections and links Noonu to nearby atolls. Seaplanes and domestic flights also connect the region to Velana International Airport near Malé.

Noonu appeals to leisure travellers seeking privacy, marine life and high-end hospitality, while its growing airport and resort infrastructure also support events, incentive travel and remote-working retreats. Moving between islands is by speedboat, dhoni or seaplane rather than by road.
