About Fujian
Fuzhou is the capital of Fujian province on China's southeastern coast, near the Taiwan Strait. Known as Rongcheng, or Banyan City, and historically as Mindu, it combines a subtropical riverside setting with a long history as a port, trading centre and regional administrative capital.
The historic core is anchored by Sanfang Qixiang, or Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, a restored quarter of Ming and Qing lanes, courtyards and traditional residences. Nearby West Lake Park, Drum Mountain's Yongquan Temple and the Fujian Museum add classical gardens, Buddhist heritage and regional history.
Districts such as Gulou, Taijiang, Cangshan and Jin'an each shape the city differently. Gulou holds the old centre, Taijiang is known for commerce and the Shangxiahang historic street, and Cangshan mixes universities with quieter riverside neighbourhoods.
As a provincial capital and a hub for manufacturing, trade and technology, Fuzhou also hosts conferences and cross-strait business events. Its food culture is distinctive, ranging from fish balls and rouyan wrappers to the elaborate Buddha Jumps Over the Wall soup, alongside hot spring traditions and a lively evening scene.
For travellers, Fuzhou offers historic lanes, green mountains, river views and a gateway to Fujian's coast and other cities. Leisure and business visitors alike find a compact blend of heritage, dining and modern services.
