About Zhaotong Zhaoyang Airport
Zhaotong Zhaoyang Airport is a new domestic airport being built to replace the existing Zhaotong Airport and serve the city of Zhaotong and northeastern Yunnan. Located in Zhaoyang District, the site lies about 15 km north of the Zhaotong city centre.
Construction of the relocation project began in July 2021. The airport is designed as a 4C-class civil-military regional airport with a 3,000-metre runway and a single passenger terminal of around 10,000 square metres, together with civil and general aviation parking stands.
The airport is positioned near the meeting point of Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou, and is expected to improve air links between Zhaotong, Kunming, Chongqing and other domestic destinations once it opens. It also supports the city's role as a regional transport hub.
Road access will connect the airport with central Zhaotong, and the site is planned to link with the region's high-speed railway network to form an air-rail hub. Taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars are expected to provide onward travel options for arriving passengers.
