About Yushu Batang Airport

Yushu Batang Airport is the main airport serving Yushu City, in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of southern Qinghai Province, China. It operates as a domestic regional airport, providing air links between this high-altitude part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and cities including Xining, Chengdu, Beijing, Xi'an and Lhasa.

The airport opened on August 1, 2009, after construction began in 2007. It sits about 18 km south of central Yushu at an elevation of roughly 3,890 metres, making it one of the highest civilian airports in Qinghai Province. In 2022, a new Terminal 2 was put into use for departing passengers, complementing the original terminal and adding two boarding bridges.

Travellers can reach downtown Yushu by airport shuttle bus, taxi or private transfer, with the road journey usually taking around 30 to 40 minutes under normal conditions. The airport is located near National Highway 214, which supports onward road travel in the region.

Passenger facilities include shops, restaurants, a medical center, oxygen supplies for altitude relief, a VIP lounge, free Wi-Fi and parking, helping to support travellers in this remote, high-elevation setting.
