About Ylivieska Airfield
Ylivieska Airfield is a small civil airfield serving Ylivieska and the surrounding Northern Ostrobothnia region of Finland. It opened in 1982, replacing an earlier airfield at Niemenkylä, and is located in the Vähäkangas area about 10 km east-southeast of the town centre.
The airfield previously handled scheduled commercial traffic until 1996 and was later downgraded to uncontrolled status in 2003. Today it is used mainly for general aviation, sport flying, flight training, paragliding and helicopter operations, with a single asphalt runway of about 1,500 m.
As an uncontrolled aerodrome it has no control tower, scheduled passenger terminal or customs facilities. Travelers continue to Ylivieska and nearby destinations by road, while the town's railway station provides connections on Finland's main rail network.
The airfield functions as a convenient base for recreational and private flying in the region, with basic aviation facilities and the full range of services available in Ylivieska nearby.
