About Utti Air Base
Utti Air Base is a military airport near Kouvola in southeastern Finland, closely associated with the Finnish Defence Forces and the Utti Jaeger Regiment. Established in April 1918 by order of General C. G. E. Mannerheim, with the first aircraft transferred in June 1918, it has a long history of military aviation in Finland.
Located about 13 km east of Kouvola city centre in the Utti area, the base is home to the regiment's Helicopter Battalion and special operations elements. All of the Defence Forces' NH90 transport helicopters and MD500 light helicopters are stationed at Utti, making the base an important centre for helicopter operations and training.
As a military airfield, Utti does not offer scheduled commercial passenger services. It handles military flights, visiting aircraft and general aviation, with a single asphalt runway of about 2,000 metres and controlled access in line with defence force regulations.
Road connections link the base to central Kouvola, the nearby Valkeala area and the wider Kymenlaakso region, while hotels, restaurants and other services are found in Kouvola. For visitors with approved access or arranged handling, the base provides a practical arrival point for the surrounding part of southern Finland.
