About Xilinhot Airport
Xilinhot Airport (XIL) is the main airport serving Xilinhot, the capital of Xilingol League in Inner Mongolia, China. It operates as a domestic regional airport and connects the city with major destinations such as Beijing, Hohhot and other cities across Inner Mongolia and northern China.
The original airport opened in 1958, and operations were relocated to the current site about 9.5 km southwest of the city centre in 1992. A new passenger terminal entered service in 2009, and the runway was extended to 2,800 metres in 2008 to improve operational capability.
The airport has a single passenger terminal handling domestic flights, with arrivals on the first floor and departures on the second floor. Its 4C-class facilities include a 2,800-metre runway, several boarding bridges and a small number of aircraft stands.
Located about 9.5 km southwest of central Xilinhot, the airport is reached mainly by road, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars providing onward connections to the city centre and the surrounding Xilingol grassland region.
