Shigatse Peace Airport (RKZ)

Shigatse Peace Airport (RKZ) is a dual-use military and civilian airport serving Shigatse, the second-largest city in the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is located in Jangdam Township, about 43 kilometres from central Shigatse, and provides an important domestic air link for travellers visiting the region's monasteries, historic towns and routes toward Everest Base Camp.

Originally established as a military airfield in 1973, the airport opened to civilian operations on 30 October 2010 and became the fifth civilian airport in Tibet. Sitting at an elevation of 3,782 metres, it is one of the highest airports in the world and operates a 5,000-metre runway, among the longest public runways in the world, which supports operations in the thin high-altitude air.

The airport has a single passenger terminal handling domestic arrivals and departures, with check-in, security, baggage claim and basic passenger facilities in one building. Road connections link the airport to Shigatse in roughly an hour, with onward access by taxi, private transfer or arranged vehicle to destinations such as Gyantse, Sakya and Lhasa.
