About Wuhu Wanli Airport
Wuhu Wanli Airport, also known as Wuhu Air Base, is a People's Liberation Army Air Force airfield located about 9 km northeast of central Wuhu in Anhui Province, China. It sits close to the Yangtze River and has long been associated with aviation activity in the region.
The airfield's origins date back to 1934, and after reconstruction in the 1950s it briefly served civil aviation. Scheduled passenger service opened in November 1959 on a Hefei–Wuhu–Tunxi route, but civil operations ended in June 1965 and the site has since been used primarily for military purposes.
Because Wuhu Wanli Airport now functions as a military base, it does not offer the public passenger terminals, shopping or dining typical of a commercial airport. Wuhu's current civil air traffic is handled by Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport, located farther from the city centre.
The base is connected to Wuhu and surrounding areas by local roads, and its location near the city makes it a recognizable landmark in the northeastern part of Wuhu. Visitors passing through the area can reach central Wuhu and continue to destinations across Anhui and the lower Yangtze region.
