About Vance W. Amory International Airport
Vance W. Amory International Airport is the only airport on the island of Nevis and serves as the main air gateway to the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis from the Nevis side. The airport is located in Newcastle in Saint James Windward Parish, about 10 km north of the capital Charlestown.
The airport was renamed in 2002 in honour of former Premier of Nevis Vance Amory, following the completion of a modern terminal, a new control tower and a runway extension. It was previously known as Newcastle Airport and, earlier, as Bambooshay Airport. Today it is managed by the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority and handles regional passenger services, cargo and general aviation.
Regional carriers such as Cape Air, Coastal Air, Air Sunshine, Fly Montserrat, Trans Anguilla and WinAir connect Nevis with nearby islands including Antigua, St. Maarten, Puerto Rico and Montserrat, while its single 1,220-metre runway also accommodates private charters and light jets.
Travellers can continue by taxi, private transfer or rental car to Charlestown, Pinney's Beach and resorts across Nevis, and ferry or water taxi services from Charlestown and Oualie Beach provide onward connections to St. Kitts.
