About Umberto Modiano Airport
Umberto Modiano Airport is a private general aviation airport serving Armação dos Búzios, a popular coastal resort town in the Região dos Lagos of Rio de Janeiro state. Opened in 2003 and named after Umberto Modiano, the airport mainly handles executive jets, air taxis, private aircraft and helicopters. Located close to central Búzios, the airport offers convenient access to the town's beaches, hotels and pousadas, as well as nearby destinations such as Cabo Frio and Arraial do Cabo. It was temporarily closed for upgrades and reopened in 2016 to receive small aircraft and helicopters from Brazil and other parts of Latin America. The airport has a single asphalt runway of about 1,300 metres and one compact passenger terminal. Because scheduled commercial flights do not currently operate from the airport, passenger facilities and processing are simpler than at major international airports. For onward travel, passengers can use taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services or rental cars to reach central Búzios and surrounding coastal areas.
