About U-Tapao–Rayong–Pattaya International Airport
U-Tapao–Rayong–Pattaya International Airport is a joint civil–military airport serving Pattaya, Rayong and the eastern Gulf of Thailand coast. Built as a military airfield and opened for commercial flights in 1989, it operates under Royal Thai Navy supervision and functions as a smaller alternative to Bangkok's main airports.
The airport has two passenger terminals, including a second terminal opened in 2019 that expanded capacity. It mainly handles domestic connections to destinations such as Phuket, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Hat Yai and Udon Thani, alongside seasonal and regional international routes.
Located in Ban Chang District, Rayong Province, it sits roughly 40–45 kilometres south of central Pattaya and about 30–35 kilometres from Rayong town. There is no rail link, so most travellers continue by taxi, pre-booked private transfer, shared minivan or rental car.
With its short security queues and compact terminal, the airport offers a straightforward arrival experience, particularly for travellers staying in southern Pattaya, Jomtien or nearby coastal areas.
