About Samui International Airport
Samui International Airport is the main airport serving Koh Samui and the surrounding Gulf of Thailand islands. Opened in April 1989 and operated by Bangkok Airways, the airport was built to connect the island with Bangkok and has grown into a key gateway for domestic and international travel.
Located in the Bo Phut area on the island's northeast coast, the airport lies close to Chaweng, the island's largest resort centre. Its low-rise, open-air design features separate domestic and international terminals, along with check-in, baggage claim, lounge, shopping and dining areas arranged across garden pavilions.
The airport sits roughly 2 km north of Chaweng and is also convenient for Bophut, Maenam, Lamai and the island's ferry piers, which provide onward connections to nearby islands. Private transfers, taxis, hotel shuttles, car rentals and shared minibuses all operate from the arrivals area.
