Tokushima Awaodori Airport (TKS)

Tokushima Awaodori Airport is a joint civil-military airport serving Tokushima, the capital of Tokushima Prefecture, and the eastern part of Shikoku. The facility, located in the town of Matsushige, is shared with the JMSDF Tokushima Air Base and functions as the main air gateway for the city and surrounding region.

The airport was designated for public use in 1961 and has since become Tokushima's principal air connection. The current passenger terminal opened in 2010 under the name Tokushima Awaodori Airport, and an international section was added in 2018. Its 2,500-metre runway supports regular domestic services to Tokyo Haneda and Fukuoka, along with some international operations.

Located about 11 km northeast of central Tokushima, the airport is connected to Tokushima Station by regular bus services taking around 30 minutes. Taxis, rental cars and private transfers provide alternative onward connections to the city centre, Naruto and other parts of Shikoku.

The three-storey terminal places check-in, baggage claim and the arrivals lobby on the first floor and departures on the third, with restaurants, shops, a lounge and an observation deck available to passengers. This compact layout keeps arrivals, departures and onward transport within easy reach.
