About Tiruchirappalli International Airport
Tiruchirappalli International Airport is the main international airport serving Tiruchirappalli, also known as Trichy, and the central region of Tamil Nadu. It is the second-largest airport in the state by international passenger traffic and provides domestic and international connectivity, including direct flights to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Located about 5 km south of the city centre along NH 336, the airport originated as a Royal Air Force base during World War II and later transitioned to civil operations. A new integrated passenger terminal was inaugurated in January 2024, expanding capacity to around 4.5 million passengers annually and adding modern check-in, security and baggage facilities.
The airport is connected to the city by taxis, app-based cabs, TNSTC city buses and auto-rickshaws, making it easy to reach Tiruchirappalli Junction, Srirangam and other parts of the city.
With lounges, duty-free shops, dining, currency exchange, Wi-Fi and onward transport options, the airport serves as a convenient gateway for leisure and business travellers to the heritage and industrial destinations of central Tamil Nadu.
