Thessaloniki Macedonia International Airport is the main international airport serving Thessaloniki and the wider northern Greece region. Opened to civilian traffic in 1948 and renamed Makedonia in 1993, it is the principal air gateway to Greece's second-largest city and a key entry point for the Halkidiki peninsula.
Located about 13 km southeast of the city centre, near Thermi, the airport handles domestic, European and seasonal international flights for both leisure and business travellers. Under Fraport Greece, the airport has been modernised and expanded, with a second terminal opened in 2021.
The airport is connected to Thessaloniki by bus, taxi, private transfer and road links, with direct bus services to the city centre and a connection to the metro network at Nea Elvetia.
