Thaba Nchu Tar Airport (IATA: TCU, ICAO: FATN) is a small airfield located southwest of Thaba Nchu in the Free State province of South Africa. It sits at an elevation of around 1,500 metres and has a single paved runway, 14/32, measuring roughly 2,000 metres in length.
The airport opened in 1988, when Thaba Nchu formed part of the former Bophuthatswana, and was developed as a local infrastructure project. It has since ceased handling scheduled commercial passenger services, and the terminal building is no longer in regular use.
Thaba Nchu town centre lies about 12 km to the northeast, while Bloemfontein and Bram Fischer International Airport are around 60 km to the west. Road access is provided by the N8 and local routes, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars the main onward travel options.
For most travelers, Bram Fischer International Airport in Bloemfontein serves as the primary commercial gateway to the Mangaung and Free State region.
