About Secunda Airport
Secunda Airport (ZEC) is a small civil airfield serving Secunda and the surrounding Mpumalanga Highveld region. It primarily supports general aviation, private charters, corporate flights and agricultural operations rather than scheduled passenger services.
Located about 2 km southwest of Secunda town centre, the airport serves a town established in the 1970s around Sasol's coal-to-liquids industrial complex. Its single asphalt runway, 11/29, is approximately 1,100 metres long and is used mainly under visual flight rules.
The airport sits roughly 130 km east of Johannesburg, with road access via the N17 and surrounding regional routes. Travelers can continue by private transfer, chauffeur service, rental car or pre-arranged group transport to Secunda and nearby towns such as Trichardt, Evander and Bethal.
Facilities at the airfield are modest, with a small terminal, waiting area, parking and AVGAS refuelling. For broader flight connections, scheduled air travel is generally handled through OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
