About Waterkloof Air Force Base
Air Force Base Waterkloof is a South African Air Force installation and one of the busiest military airbases in the country. It was officially opened on 1 August 1938 as Waterkloof Air Station and later developed into a key base for transport, VIP and presidential flight operations.
The base is situated south of Pretoria, near Centurion in Gauteng, and operates two runways; the longest is approximately 3,353 metres. Its passenger terminal mainly supports military, government and approved VIP movements rather than regular public airline services.
Road access is available via major routes connecting the base with Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand, Sandton and Johannesburg. Because the facility is an active military base, entry is controlled and onward transport is usually arranged in advance.
For approved passengers, Waterkloof provides a secure and direct arrival point close to Pretoria, with private transfers, chauffeur services and pre-arranged vehicles offering onward travel to the city and the wider Gauteng region.
