About Teruel Airport
Teruel Airport is a specialised industrial-aerospace airport located near Caudé, in the municipality of Teruel, in the province of Teruel, Aragon. Opened for operations in February 2013, it was developed on the site of the former Caudé military airbase and is operated by the Plataforma Aeroportuaria de Teruel (PLATA) consortium, formed by the Government of Aragon and Teruel City Council.
Unlike a conventional passenger airport, Teruel Airport focuses on aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), long-term parking and aircraft recycling. It is one of Europe's largest aircraft storage facilities, with capacity for around 250 aircraft and a 2,825-metre runway capable of handling large wide-body aircraft.
The airport is situated roughly 10–12 km northwest of Teruel city centre and is connected by the N-234 road and the A-23 motorway, which link Teruel with Zaragoza and Valencia. Travel to the city and the wider Aragon region is generally made by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur or rental car.
Teruel Airport is not authorised for scheduled passenger traffic, though on-demand commercial flights of up to 19 passengers have been possible since 2020. Its facilities are designed around hangars, storage aprons and operational support for the aerospace industry rather than passenger terminals.
