About Tashikuergan Hongqilafu Airport
Tashikuergan Hongqilafu Airport opened on 23 December 2022 and serves Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County in Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang. It is China's westernmost airport and Xinjiang's first high-plateau airport, located at an elevation of 3,258.4 metres.
Situated about 13 km north of Tashkurgan county town, the airport is a joint civil-military domestic tourist feeder airport designed mainly for regional and domestic air travel. Its single terminal building covers 3,005 square metres and is served by a 3,800-metre runway and four aircraft stands.
The airport primarily connects Tashkurgan with Kashgar and Urumqi and supports access to the Pamir region and the Khunjerab Pass border area. Road transport links the airport with Tashkurgan town, from where travellers can continue to Kashgar and other destinations in southern Xinjiang.
As a small high-altitude airport, facilities remain compact, and onward travel typically relies on taxis or pre-arranged transfers. Its location makes it a practical entry point for travellers visiting the western Pamir area.
