The base lies about 240 km northwest of Bangkok and roughly 5 km west-northwest of Takhli town. It is built around a single concrete runway, 18/36, measuring about 3,000 metres, and has supported Thai air force operations for decades. During the 1960s and early 1970s the site also hosted United States Air Force units and became a major base for combat operations in the Vietnam War era.
Road links connect Takhli to Takhli town, Nakhon Sawan city about 69 km to the north, and Bangkok further south, so most onward travel is made by private transfer, taxi, chauffeur service or rental car.
