About Sócrates Mariani Bittencourt Airport
Sócrates Mariani Bittencourt Airport is the main airfield serving Brumado, a municipality in southwestern Bahia. It functions primarily as a general aviation and private flight facility rather than a scheduled commercial gateway, supporting business aviation, private aircraft and regional air access.
The airfield is located along the BR-030, about 18 km from the centre of Brumado. It has a single asphalt runway of about 1,740 metres with the designation 12/30, at an elevation of roughly 510 metres, and it received night-landing lighting in recent years.
Because scheduled airline services are not operated from BMS, travellers typically arrive by private or chartered aircraft and continue by road. The BR-030 links the airport to Brumado and to nearby municipalities in the region, with car rental, private transfers and pre-arranged drivers as the main onward options.
The airport has historic ties to the local mining industry through Magnesita and serves business and private travel for Brumado and the surrounding area. Although passenger facilities are limited, its runway and road access make it a practical air entry point for the region.
