Sir Seretse Khama International Airport is the main international airport serving Gaborone and the principal aviation gateway to Botswana. Opened in 1984 and named after Botswana's first president, the airport serves as the hub for Air Botswana and connects the capital to domestic and regional destinations across Southern Africa.
Located about 15 kilometres north of downtown Gaborone, the airport operates through a single modern passenger terminal that handles both domestic and international flights. A major expansion completed around 2010 enlarged the terminal and improved check-in, security, arrival and departure facilities for passengers.
The airport is connected to Gaborone by the A1 highway, with taxis, private transfers, hotel shuttles and rental cars providing onward transport to the city centre and surrounding areas. There is no direct rail link or regular public bus service to the terminal.
Inside, passengers can find restaurants, cafés, shops, duty-free retail, currency exchange, ATMs, free Wi-Fi and passenger lounges, making it a practical and convenient gateway for both business and leisure travelers arriving in Botswana.
