Simara Airport is a small domestic airport serving Jitpur Simara and the commercial city of Birgunj in Bara District, Madhesh Province, Nepal. It connects the industrial and trade corridor around Birgunj with Kathmandu and lies about 20 km from Raxaul on the Indian border.
The airport was built in July 1958 and remains a practical domestic gateway for passengers and goods moving between the Terai region and the capital, especially when road transport is disrupted.
The airport premises are compact, with separate departure, operations, and arrival areas and a paved asphalt runway. Regular domestic flights link Simara with Kathmandu, and night operations have been available since September 2018.
Located around 16 km from Birgunj, the airport is reached by taxi, private car, and local road transport. From the terminal, travellers can continue to Birgunj, Pipara Simara, the Raxaul border area, and other destinations in the Terai.
