About Šiauliai International Airport
Šiauliai International Airport serves the city of Šiauliai and the wider northern Lithuania region. Also known as Zokniai Airport, it is a joint civil and military facility operated in cooperation with the Lithuanian Air Force, with civil aviation services managed by the municipal enterprise Šiaulių oro uostas.
The airport originated as a military airfield for the Lithuanian Air Force and was later expanded as a major Soviet military base. Between 1995 and 1997 the aerodrome was converted for civil use, gaining new navigation systems, an air traffic control tower and a passenger terminal, and it now also supports NATO Baltic Air Policing operations.
Located about 7 km southeast of central Šiauliai, the airport is one of the largest airfields in the Baltic states and has two runways. Its compact passenger terminal meets Schengen requirements and concentrates check-in, security, arrivals and basic passenger services in a single building.
Road access, taxis, private transfers and shuttle services connect the airport to Šiauliai and nearby destinations, making it a practical entry point for travellers visiting northern Lithuania and the surrounding region.
