About Shire Inda Selassie Airport
Shire Inda Selassie Airport is the main air gateway to Shire, also called Inda Selassie, in the Tigray Region of northern Ethiopia. Also known as Shire Airport or Indaselassie Airport, it mainly supports domestic air travel within Ethiopia and is served by Ethiopian Airlines on routes to Addis Ababa, Mek'ele and Semera.
The airport lies just south of the city centre and was substantially redeveloped with a new runway, apron, taxiway and access road under a project signed in 2015 and completed in 2017 by Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation.
Its single small terminal handles a modest flow of domestic passengers, offering a compact and straightforward arrival and departure experience. Onward travel into Shire is easy by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service or rental car, with the city centre only a few kilometres away.
As the main airport serving Shire and the surrounding western Tigray area, it provides an important connection between the city, regional centres and the Ethiopian capital for residents and visitors.
