Shimojishima Airport serves Miyakojima City and the Miyako Islands in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The airport opened as a pilot training airfield in 1979, and its current passenger terminal, Miyako Shimojishima Airport Terminal, opened on 30 March 2019, introducing scheduled domestic and international services alongside private jet handling.
Located on Shimojishima island, about 20 km from central Miyakojima across the Irabu Ohashi bridge, the airport connects travellers to Hirara and resort areas across Miyako, Irabu and nearby islands. Skymark operates domestic flights to Tokyo Haneda, Kobe and Naha, while international routes include Seoul, Busan, Taipei and seasonal Hong Kong services.
The single-storey terminal is designed with a resort-like, open feel, with check-in, security, shops, cafés and departure areas in one straightforward flow. Aircraft are boarded on foot, and facilities include dining, a souvenir shop and duty-free shopping.
