About Shillong Airport
Shillong Airport (SHL), also known as Umroi Airport or Barapani Airport, is the domestic airport serving Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. Constructed in the mid-1960s and operational from the mid-1970s, it is managed by the Airports Authority of India.
Located at Umroi, about 30 km from central Shillong, the airport handles domestic air services and connects the city primarily to destinations such as Kolkata. It has a single integrated passenger terminal, with a newer terminal building completed around 2010 and an instrument landing system introduced in 2015.
Road transport is the main connection between the airport and Shillong. Passengers can use taxis, prepaid cabs, private transfers, chauffeur services, rental cars and Meghalaya Transport Corporation buses; the nearest major railway station is at Guwahati, roughly 95 km away.
