Shigatse Tingri Airport is a high-altitude regional airport in Tingri County, within the Shigatse area of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Opened in December 2022, it is the closest airport to Mount Everest Base Camp and the second airport serving the wider Shigatse region.
The airport sits at about 4,316 meters above sea level on the Tibetan plateau, roughly 33 km from Tingri County town and about 220 km from central Shigatse. Its single terminal, five aircraft stands and 4,500-meter runway are designed for limited regional traffic, with a capacity of about 250,000 passengers per year.
Flights are limited and mainly connect the airport with other domestic hubs such as Chengdu and Lhasa, and schedules can vary with weather and season. Most onward journeys to Tingri, Shigatse or Everest Base Camp are made by road using private vehicles, chartered transport or arranged transfers.
