Seymour Galapagos Ecological Airport (GPS)

Seymour Galapagos Ecological Airport is the main airport serving the Galápagos Islands and the principal gateway for travelers arriving from mainland Ecuador. Opened in December 2012, it is widely recognized as the world's first ecological airport, designed to reduce its environmental impact through solar and wind energy, rainwater treatment and recycled construction materials.

Located on the island of Baltra, the airport is the entry point for most visitors continuing to Santa Cruz Island and Puerto Ayora, the main town of the archipelago. Its single terminal building covers about 6,000 square meters, and a 2,400-meter runway supports domestic services from Quito and Guayaquil.

The journey from the airport to Puerto Ayora usually combines a bus transfer to the Itabaca Channel, a short ferry crossing and a further bus ride, taking around 45 to 60 minutes in total. Private transfers and group transportation are also available for onward travel.

With biosecurity controls, restaurants, cafés, shops, a VIP lounge and other passenger services, the airport combines essential travel infrastructure with a strong focus on conservation, making it a distinctive gateway to the Galápagos.
