A major modernization was completed in February 2025, when a new passenger terminal was inaugurated after an investment of more than USD 12 million. The project included a new terminal building, taxiway and aircraft apron, expanded parking, perimeter fencing and road, and an upgraded fire station, as part of Uruguay's National System of International Airports plan led by Aeropuertos Uruguay.
The airport is located about 3 km northeast of downtown Durazno, across the Yí River, with road access along Route 5 Brigadier General Fructuoso Rivera. This location makes it convenient for travelers continuing to the city centre and surrounding areas of the department.
