About Sambú Airport
Sambú Airport is a small public aerodrome serving Sambú and Puerto Indio, communities along the Sambú River in the Darién Province of eastern Panama. The airport provides an essential domestic air link in a remote region with limited road access, with Air Panama flights connecting the area to Panama City–Albrook.
The airport sits on the western bank of the Sambú River, close to Sambú town, and operates with a single short paved runway of about 600 metres. Its basic passenger area handles a modest schedule of regional flights, arrivals and departures.
Because the Darién has few road connections, the airport is a key transport link for residents and visitors. A local road provides access toward Garachiné, while many river and coastal communities are reached by boat from nearby landing points.
Facilities at the airport are limited, so most services are found in Sambú town. Despite its small size, the airport makes travel to this remote part of Panama considerably easier than overland routes.
