About Salem Airport
Salem Airport is a small regional airport serving Salem city and the surrounding districts of Tamil Nadu. Opened in 1993, it is located at Kamalapuram, about 15 km northwest of the Salem city centre.
The airport resumed scheduled commercial flights in 2018 under India's UDAN regional connectivity scheme and currently connects Salem with domestic destinations including Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru through IndiGo services. A single terminal building handles arrivals and departures, supported by one runway.
The airport is reached mainly by road, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars providing onward travel to Salem city centre and nearby areas such as the Yercaud hill station.
Despite its small size, the terminal provides essential passenger services including a waiting lounge, restrooms, retail shops, check-in and baggage facilities, making it a convenient entry point for travel within the region.
