About Maroua-Salak Airport
Maroua-Salak Airport is the main airport serving Maroua, the capital of Cameroon's Far North Region. A first airfield was established at Maroua in 1949, and the airport at Salak was developed from 1951 after the difficult approach over the surrounding hills. It was upgraded to international status in 2013, becoming Cameroon's fourth international airport after Yaoundé-Nsimalen, Douala and Garoua.
The airport mainly handles domestic flights, particularly Camair-Co services, alongside humanitarian and charter operations. Its single passenger terminal, supported by a separate cargo terminal, processes both domestic and international traffic.
Located about 15 km southwest of central Maroua and close to the N1 highway, the airport is reached by road. Taxis and pre-arranged private transfers are the main options for continuing into the city and the wider region.
