Cameroon South

Cameroon South runs from the Atlantic beaches at Kribi into dense equatorial rainforest, where Beti-Pahuin towns, cocoa and timber routes and the Campo Ma'an reserve set a slow, humid rhythm. It is a region of red-earth roads, roadside grilled fish and forest mornings that begin under thick mist.

About South

Ebolowa is the capital of Cameroon's South Region and a modest but important administrative and trading centre in the country's forested south. Set on a humid, forested plateau between Yaoundé and the borders with Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, the city is the heart of Bulu culture and French-speaking official life in the region.

The city grew from a late-19th-century colonial administrative post into a regional hub for government services, cocoa farming and the timber trade. Its centre combines older colonial-era buildings, churches and market spaces with newer public institutions, while outlying neighbourhoods and villages remain closely connected to Bulu, a Beti-Pahouin language and heritage.

Ebolowa's appeal is found in everyday local life rather than large monuments: busy markets, tree-lined streets and the green, humid landscape of the South Region. A well-known local curiosity is a baobab growing on a large rock, and the city serves as a practical base for excursions into Cameroon's southern forest areas and for journeys toward the coast at Kribi.

Though smaller than Yaoundé or Douala, Ebolowa matters as a gateway toward the Gabonese and Equatorial Guinean frontiers and as a stop on regional transport routes. Business travellers find a quieter, functional regional centre, while leisure visitors use it mainly for cultural encounters, forest travel and onward connections through southern Cameroon.
