About Rumjatar Airport
Rumjatar Airport is a small domestic airport serving Rumjatar and Okhaldhunga District in Koshi Province, eastern Nepal. Opened in September 1972, it has long provided an air link between the Kathmandu Valley and the hill settlements of the Okhaldhunga area.
The airport sits at an elevation of about 1,372 metres (4,500 feet) and has a single asphalt runway measuring roughly 585 metres (1,919 feet). A compact passenger terminal handles domestic operations, and scheduled services connect Rumjatar with Kathmandu.
Rumjatar Airport lies near Rumjatar village, approximately 12–13 kilometres southeast of Okhaldhunga Bazaar, the district headquarters. Road access is via feeder and local roads, and flights resumed in October 2024 after a period of closure, restoring a key air connection for the district.
As a regional gateway, the airport supports travel for residents, visitors and trekkers moving between the Kathmandu Valley and the hills of eastern Nepal. Passengers should expect a small, simple terminal and limited facilities compared with larger airports.
