Ricardo García Posada Airport is a small regional airport serving El Salvador, a mining town in the Atacama Region of northern Chile. Formerly known as El Salvador Bajo Airport, it primarily supports travel for the local copper mining community and related business activity.
The airport is located in the Atacama Desert approximately 16 kilometres southwest of El Salvador, at an elevation of about 1,597 metres. It operates a single asphalt runway, 09/27, measuring about 2,300 metres, which is suitable for regional aircraft operations.
Road access is provided by Route C-13, connecting the airport to El Salvador, Diego de Almagro and Route 5 towards Chañaral and other regional centres. Copiapó and its Desierto de Atacama Airport offer a larger regional connection point for travellers continuing elsewhere in Chile.
Although compact, the airport provides the essential terminal, check-in, security and waiting facilities needed for domestic arrivals and departures.
