Resende Airport (REZ)

Resende Airport serves the city of Resende in the southern region of Rio de Janeiro state and acts as a local aviation gateway to the Agulhas Negras area, including nearby Itatiaia, Penedo, Visconde de Mauá and the Serra da Mantiqueira. The airport, also known as Agulhas Negras Airport, originated from the Resende Aeroclube and later became a municipal facility. It has a single asphalt runway designated 08/26 of about 1,300 metres and a compact passenger terminal. In December 2024 the municipality completed revitalization works that included runway resurfacing and improvements to the passenger station. The airport primarily serves general and executive aviation and is authorized for aircraft of up to 50 passengers. Regular commercial flights are not currently operating, so the facility is mainly used for private, business and regional flights. The airport is located about 4 km west of central Resende, with road access to the city centre and the surrounding region. From there, travelers can continue by car or arranged transfer to Itatiaia, Penedo, Visconde de Mauá and other destinations near the Itatiaia National Park.
