About Ramechhap Airport
Ramechhap Airport is a domestic airport serving Manthali, the district headquarters of Ramechhap District in Bagmati Province, Nepal. Opened in 1979 and renovated in 2015, it sits in the Tamakoshi River valley and is the closest airfield to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
The airport plays a key role in Himalayan travel, particularly as a seasonal departure point for short takeoff and landing flights to Lukla and Phaplu during the spring and autumn trekking seasons. Since 2019, much of this traffic has been rerouted from Kathmandu to reduce congestion at the capital's single-runway airport.
Located about 132 km east of Kathmandu, the airport is reached by road along the BP Highway, with the winding journey typically taking around four to five hours. Travelers usually continue by private transfer, shared vehicle, or local transport toward Manthali and onward trekking routes.
