About Prado Airport
Prado Airport is a small public aerodrome serving the town of Prado and the Whale Coast (Costa das Baleias) in the far south of Bahia. It mainly handles general aviation, private aircraft and charter flights, and no scheduled commercial airlines currently operate from the field.
Located beside BR-489, about 8 km from the centre of Prado, the airport has a single paved and signposted runway of 1,200 metres by 30 metres and operates during daylight hours under visual flight rules. In 2017 the state government carried out improvement works to meet ANAC standards, and in 2018 ANAC renewed the aerodrome's registration for ten years.
Road access via BR-489 connects the airport to central Prado and onward to the BR-101. Travellers typically continue by pre-arranged transfer, taxi, private vehicle or rental car, while the nearest airports with regular commercial flights are in Teixeira de Freitas and Porto Seguro.
Prado's beaches, including Cumuruxatiba, and the Whale Coast attract visitors to this quieter part of southern Bahia. The airport serves as a convenient local airfield for private and charter travel into the region.
