The base operates as a single boarding pier on the reservoir rather than a conventional airport terminal. Seaplane services, mainly operated by Cinnamon Air, connect Kandy with Colombo and other domestic waterdromes and airfields, making it a practical gateway for visitors to the Temple of the Tooth Relic and surrounding attractions.
Located about 5–6 kilometres from central Kandy, the seaplane base is reached by taxi or tuk-tuk in roughly 15–20 minutes, depending on traffic. Passengers are advised to arrive about 20–30 minutes before departure for the streamlined check-in and boarding process.
