About Colombo Ratmalana International Airport
Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana is a compact airport serving Colombo and the surrounding Western Province. Located around 15 km south of central Colombo, it was Sri Lanka's first international airport and served as the country's main gateway until Bandaranaike International Airport opened in Katunayake in 1967.
Today the airport focuses on domestic flights, seaplane services, aviation training and a growing number of regional international flights, mainly to southern India. It remains an important hub for connections to destinations such as Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and other points within Sri Lanka.
The airport has two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 handles domestic flights and international corporate jets, while Terminal 2 is used for international regional operations. Passenger facilities include restaurants, VIP and VVIP lounges, a medical centre, and nearby banking services.
