About Pohnpei International Airport
Pohnpei International Airport is the main international gateway to Pohnpei, the largest and most populous island in the Federated States of Micronesia. It is located on Deketik, a small lagoon islet connected to Pohnpei Island by a causeway, about 1.2 km north of Kolonia.
Opened in January 1970, the airport operates as an international airport of entry and handles scheduled passenger flights through a single terminal. United Airlines operates the island-hopper route linking Guam and Honolulu with stops in Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae and the Marshall Islands, while Nauru Airlines has also served Pohnpei.
The airport has one asphalt runway and compact terminal facilities with check-in, security, immigration and customs handled in one building. Passenger amenities include a café or snack bar, a souvenir shop, currency exchange and limited car rental options.
From the airport, the causeway road provides direct access to Kolonia in a few minutes, while Palikir, the capital of the Federated States of Micronesia, is roughly 25–30 minutes away by road.
