About Pinheiro Airport
Pinheiro Airport is a small public airport serving Pinheiro and the Baixada Maranhense region in northern Maranhão, Brazil. Opened in 1982, it primarily handles regional, private and general aviation flights rather than regular scheduled commercial services.
Located on the MA-106 highway about 6 km from central Pinheiro, the airport has a single asphalt runway of approximately 1,740 metres. It is also known as Aeroporto Prefeito Diogo de Sousa and acts as one of the main air access points for the Baixada Maranhense.
The airport operates daytime visual flight operations and has limited passenger infrastructure. Most travellers continue to Pinheiro city centre by taxi, private transfer or rental car, while São Luís, the state capital, lies roughly 85–95 km away by road.
Although compact, the airport plays a practical role in regional connectivity, business travel and access to communities across the Baixada Maranhense.
